A 24-hour restaurant along the rustic Sembawang, VP’s food is enjoyed by Singaporeans from all walks of life. From an army of delivering drivers picking up lunch orders for office workers to the delicious aroma of teh tarik and roti pratas weaving through the midnight air, VP Restaurant has been a fixture here since 1967. Hafriz, the son of the restauranteur, sat with us with a customary teh tarik. “We are thinking of expanding. Having automated many processes with ShiOkMerchant, we now have extra resources. Would be a good time to, with F&B rapidly expanding since COVID-19.” The mention of ShiOkMerchant brought us a smile, and we are delighted that a hugely established restaurant has found great usefulness in our solution.

“We have had to manage online orders coming in from various sources. You’d be able to see different coloured tablets; green for GrabFood; pink for FoodPanda. There should be a few more colours!”, Hafriz remarked. It’s a common sight in the district, with multiple distinctly coloured tablets, in most restaurants in the district. “With ShiOkMerchant, all that clutter disappeared overnight. We received orders from different food-delivery platforms and even our own ordering website directly to our POS, which we sent directly to the kitchen.” Time saved printing orders for various platforms for the kitchen and the time saved handing the food to the driver were the two significant improvements that Hafriz noted. At peak capacity, we can handle over 800 orders daily.

With the ShiOkMerchant, we have managed our promotions across different sales channels on a single platform. “We manage and edit our menus on ShiOkMerchant, and use their templates to launch quick promotions directly. That’s it, and it’s reflected on all our sales channels! As a result, we do not need to spend much time and resources to manage all our sales channels.” Hafriz noted. While ShiOkMerchant comes with several pre-built integrations, VP restaurant had custom requirements for their catering websites. Insight is a crucial feature implemented in ShiOkMerchant. It allows our customers to identify inefficiencies and improve their operations. Furthermore, it consolidates transactions between merchants and customers, allowing merchants to finetune their product offerings or send relevant promotions to customers most likely to purchase a product. ShiOkParcel draws from customer purchase history to identify potential future purchases. “We have a few concurrently running promotions, but these promotions target different segments of our customers. For example, we have a lunch promotion targeting office workers and late-night supper promotion targeting customers who usually order at night.”, Hafriz said. “No more trial and error sending the same promotions to all our customers and hoping it leads to greater sales. Now, nearly 48% of our customers receiving promotions from us utilize the promotions!”.

VP restaurant used to manage its deliveries using printed delivery orders handed to drivers before each delivery. Furthermore, drivers could drive from location to location without scheduled drop-off stops, resulting in some customers receiving their food earlier but mostly later. Without digital solutions, drivers’ ability to complete deliveries in a timely fashion was exacerbated. Drivers had to find contact details on the delivery orders to call customers and update them on their deliveries. Also, their drivers were required to get the customer’s signature on the delivery order form to confirm that the delivery was completed.
